Produced and distributed by Inverleigh (the international sports content company) on behalf of FIBA (the world governing body for basketball) the long-running, official television series, ‘FIBA World Basketball’ has surpassed 1,000 episodes.

For over 1,000 consecutive weeks since its launch in January 2006, a new half-hour episode of FIBA World Basketball has been delivered to broadcast partners globally, making it the longest-running official weekly magazine show of any sport.

At a time when YouTube didn’t exist, FIBA World Basketball was created to provide basketball fans the opportunity to access highlights and features from basketball played at the top level, all over the world.

The content includes action from the FIBA Basketball World Cups, Continental Cups, FIBA 3X3 events, as well as key regional and national leagues, while utilising historic footage from the FIBA archive.

As the series passes the 1,000-episode milestone, the FIBA World Basketball team also welcomes the return of the NBA as a valued content partner in 2025, contributing NBA and WNBA highlights to the program, which will be complemented by interviews with NBA players conducted over a month-long shoot across the US.

Andrew Ryan, Managing Director of FIBA Media said, “The sports content world has changed a lot in the almost two decades since FIBA World Basketball had its premiere. During that time though, FIBA World Basketball has always strived to bring the sport’s personalities to the fore and showcase that basketball is a truly global game. It remains a captivating programme each week and long may it continue to bring a wide variety of the best basketball action to our screens, from FIBA basketball and beyond.”

As the series approaches its 20-year anniversary in January 2026, remarkably a number of original personnel have remained involved in the ongoing production of the series, including Stephanie Mignot (FIBA Media) and Matt Whytcross (Inverleigh) who, with Paul Stimpson, developed the original concept in 2005, while the current Senior Producer, Evan Harding, was a writer on the original pilot episode.

Inverleigh co-founder, Matt Whytcross said, “To reach 1,000 episodes is a remarkable achievement for any television program and the enduring success of FIBA World Basketball speaks to the power of basketball’s international appeal and the passion of all that have supported, scheduled or been hands-on in the production of this series.”  He continued, “The catalyst to the success of this series is an outstanding partnership between FIBA and Inverleigh, testament to our shared values and passion for telling the story of basketball.”

The series, distributed by Inverleigh’s content sales team, has been a long-standing feature within the schedules of an expansive list of broadcasters extending beyond 120 partners over the past two decades including ESPN, DAZN, DirecTV Latin America, Fox Sports, Astro Malaysia, Abu Dhabi Sports, SuperSport South Africa, FanDuel, OTE Greece, SporTV Portugal, Cignal TV Philippines, Starhub Singapore, Flow Sports Caribbean and many more.

The show can also be seen worldwide on FIBA’s media platforms, including the channel Courtside 1891 TV and Inverleigh’s own linear sports channel, Unbeaten.
